The Almost Heaven story

How Almost Heaven came to be

Almost Heaven Saunas was founded in 1977 in Renick, West Virginia, and has spent nearly fifty years building cedar barrel and cabin saunas out of the Greenbrier Valley. In December 2018, the company was acquired by Harvia, the publicly traded Finnish sauna heater and cabin manufacturer founded in 1950. At the time of acquisition Almost Heaven was a $8.7M revenue business. Under Harvia ownership, the company moved into a new Lewisburg manufacturing facility in 2021 and increased production capacity by approximately one third. Almost Heaven now functions as the North American arm of the global Harvia group.

What Almost Heaven builds

Cedar is the entire identity of the line: eastern white cedar barrels (Salem 2-person, Pinnacle 4-person) and cabin saunas (Rainelle 4-person indoor, Georgian 6-person outdoor) along with cedar accessory kits, backrests, and ladles. Every sauna ships with a Harvia heater preinstalled, the integration that was the strategic point of the Harvia acquisition. Barrels reach 165°F in 30 to 40 minutes and 185°F in under an hour. Two or three people can assemble a kit in a few hours because panels and sections ship pre-assembled from the factory.

What they disclose, and the gaps that remain

The structural warranty on Almost Heaven saunas is a limited lifetime against manufacturing defects, one of the strongest in the catalog. Harvia heater coverage is 1 year on heating elements and 5 years on other heater components. The brand qualifies for HSA/FSA reimbursement through a Truemed partnership and offers Affirm financing. Gaps remain. The warranty is not transferable, so resale strips coverage. The warranty also applies only to the contiguous United States, not Alaska, Hawaii, or international buyers. Founders are not publicly named beyond the company history. Almost Heaven products are sold through Costco under a separate retail channel, where buyer-reported service experiences (especially shipping delays and parts lead times) skew worse than direct purchases. The company pulled Amazon listings after persistent quality complaints there.

Frequently asked questions

Who owns Almost Heaven Saunas?

Harvia, a Finnish public company founded in 1950 that manufactures sauna heaters and cabins globally. Harvia acquired Almost Heaven on December 31, 2018, and Almost Heaven now operates as the brand's North American arm.

Where is Almost Heaven manufactured?

Lewisburg, West Virginia, in Greenbrier Valley. The current facility opened in 2021 (a former ABB building) and replaced an earlier site in Renick, WV. Capacity increased approximately one third with the move.

What is Almost Heaven's warranty?

A limited lifetime warranty on sauna structure against manufacturing defects. The Harvia heater carries 1 year on heating elements (coils) and 5 years on other heating components. The warranty is non-transferable and applies only to the contiguous United States.

Is the Almost Heaven warranty transferable?

No. The lifetime structural warranty applies to the original purchaser only. If you sell the sauna, the next owner does not inherit warranty coverage.

Is Almost Heaven sold at Costco?

Yes, through a separate retail channel. Buyer-reported service experiences from Costco purchases skew worse than direct purchases, especially around shipping delays and parts lead times. The company pulled Amazon listings after persistent quality complaints in that channel.

What heater does Almost Heaven use?

Every Almost Heaven sauna ships with a Harvia heater preinstalled. Harvia is a 75-year-old Finnish sauna heater company that operates in approximately 100 countries. The integration is the strategic point of the 2018 acquisition.

Is Almost Heaven HSA/FSA eligible?

Yes, through a partnership with Truemed. Almost Heaven also offers financing through Affirm (0% APR for 3 months at the time of writing).

How long does an Almost Heaven sauna take to heat up?

Approximately 30 to 40 minutes to reach 165°F, and under 60 minutes to reach 185°F. Times vary with outdoor temperature and target heat preference.

How does Almost Heaven compare to Sun Home?

Almost Heaven (founded 1977, owned by Harvia, Lewisburg WV) is a cedar-tradition specialist with US manufacturing and a lifetime structural warranty. Sun Home (founded 2021, independent, San Diego) is full-stack across saunas, cold plunges, and red light therapy with published third-party EMF and VOC test data. Almost Heaven leans toward traditional cedar buyers; Sun Home leans toward premium full-stack wellness buyers.
