The Rouge Care Story

How Rouge Care started

Marc Poirier founded Rouge Care in 2019 after a personal experience with chronic neck pain. A pinched nerve had made even lifting his head painful, and red light therapy entered his recovery plan through his osteopath alongside continued exercises and treatment. Poirier holds a PhD in Cognitive Science from Université de Montréal and had previously built several digital advertising companies, including Klever Programmatic where he served as CEO and co-founder. His cognitive science background drew him to photobiomodulation as a mechanism: specific wavelengths of light interact with cellular mitochondria, influencing energy production and recovery at the cellular level. Rouge launched its first panel line in Spring 2020. By October 2020, demand had reached what the company describes as unprecedented heights and the team expanded.

What Rouge Care builds

Rouge is a red light therapy specialist with no sauna or cold plunge line. The G4 series is the flagship: 8 research-backed wavelengths spanning visible red (630nm, 650nm, 660nm, 670nm), near-infrared (810nm, 830nm, 850nm), and a mid-infrared 1060nm wavelength positioned for fat loss. The Ultimate G4 carries 1,152 high-output 5W multichip LEDs across an expanded panel sized for full-body coverage; the Max G4 and Pro G4 step down in panel size and price. The Elite Red Light Therapy Face Mask delivers 4 wavelengths plus a chest plate that most face-only masks omit. The Nano is a smartphone-sized USB-C portable for travel. A full stand lineup (floor stands, motorized, pneumatic) supports the panel range.

What they disclose, and the gaps that remain

Rouge Care publishes Health Canada approval, FDA registration as a low-risk general wellness device per FDA guidance, and compliance with several leading regulatory institutions worldwide. Customer review aggregates exist across multiple platforms: Trustpilot 4.5 stars from 13 reviews, 1,300+ on-site reviews with 81% five-star, and a Light Therapy Insiders Facebook group running 90% five-star. Alex Fergus of Light Therapy Insiders has stated on his expert review: "Their output, their power numbers, wavelengths are all good. They're all legit." The 3-year warranty is the standard category term. Gaps remain. Neither the FDA registration number nor the Health Canada license number is publicly disclosed. The specific lab handling third-party irradiance and EMF testing is not named. The exact Canadian city is not stated. The 3-year warranty is shorter than the 5 to 6 year warranties offered by some category leaders. A 20% restocking fee applies to stands and stand accessories on return.

Frequently asked questions

Marc Poirier, a Canadian entrepreneur with a PhD in Cognitive Science from Université de Montréal. Before Rouge, Poirier built several digital advertising companies and served as CEO and co-founder of Klever Programmatic. He started Rouge in 2019 after red light therapy contributed to his recovery from a pinched nerve.

Canada. The company describes itself as "Proudly Canadian" but does not publicly disclose the exact city. Operations are active in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom with growing international reach.

Rouge devices are FDA registered as low-risk general wellness products per FDA guidance document "General Wellness: Policy for Low Risk Devices." The specific FDA registration number is not publicly disclosed. They are not FDA-approved medical devices in the regulatory sense (that classification is reserved for higher-risk diagnostic or therapeutic equipment).

Yes. Rouge publishes that its devices are Health Canada approved. The specific Health Canada license number is not publicly disclosed.

The G4 series delivers 8 wavelengths: 630nm, 650nm, 660nm, and 670nm in the visible red range; 810nm, 830nm, and 850nm in near-infrared; and a 1060nm mid-infrared wavelength positioned for fat-loss applications.

3 years on devices. This is the standard category term; some competitors offer 5 to 6 year warranties on flagship panels.

60 days from delivery. No restocking fee applies to panels. A 20% restocking fee applies to stands and stand accessories. Light therapy devices are eligible for return within 45 days at most competitors; Rouge's 60-day window is among the more generous in the category.

Customer review aggregates span three independent platforms. Trustpilot: 4.5 stars from 13 reviews. On-site (Shopify reviews): 1,300+ reviews with 81% five-star and 14-15% four-star. Light Therapy Insiders Facebook group: 90% five-star, 10% four-star. Alex Fergus (Light Therapy Insiders) has independently endorsed the brand: "Their output, their power numbers, wavelengths are all good. They're all legit."

Rouge Care (Canadian, RLT-specialist, named founder, founded 2019, $236 to $4,476 lineup, 3-year warranty, 60-day returns) is built around photobiomodulation depth: 8 wavelengths, multiple panel sizes, face mask + portable. Sun Home (San Diego, full-stack across sauna and cold plunge and red light, 2-product RLT range, 1-year RLT warranty, 45-day RLT returns) treats red light as one part of a wider wellness stack and integrates RLT into hybrid sauna cabins. Pick Rouge if RLT is your primary modality; pick Sun Home if it is one tool among several.
